As a retired veteran, I disagree vehemently with any proposals that allow your average military person to arm up and carry on base.

Former Army medic says, "If we cannot trust our senior NCOs and officers to protect our troops, then who can we trust?”

Um, dude?  Nidal at Ft Hood was a major.  Very trustworthy, eh?

These events are thankfully still rare.
